Dear Ms. Keating,

On 18 December 2025, I visited 521 S State St in Chicago to take advantage of the US$1 sign-up and US$24.99/mo membership special. I could not.

Nowhere in your promotional materials, or anywhere before the actual execution is it made known that auto-debit from a bank account is required to complete the transaction. To say this was unexpected is an understatement. Most folks signing up in the modern world expect the need to auto-pay but in the vast majority of cases, credit cards are accepted. They work fine for Planet Fitness too because it is the way the “Initiation” of US$1 would have been billed.

I do not and never will authorize an auto-debit by way of ACH transfer considering the lovely time I have had over decades of abuses from the irrationally exuberant billings of the health industry. (Irrational only if one is the victim/customer – totally rational if one is the biller/beneficiary!) And thus, I would never agree to allow your tentacles into my accounts without the protection afforded by credit cards’ legal protective precedent.
